Comment: We are trying to protect Iraq, we have invested lives, billions of dollars and multiple other resources and they cooperate with Iran? This Iran is on our evil list, it has sworn to do us in along with Israel and it is funding and supplying weapons that kill our soldiers. These two countries are in collusion with one another-USA government response? Silence!Notice how Iran continues to seek "agreements" with its neighbors. This does two things: first, it provides a protective ring around its borders; second, it demonstrates politicly who is in control in this region. The USA? Silence!
Border Security Pact With Iraq
TEHRAN, Aug. 17--Commanders of Iran and Iraq Border Guards signed a border security pact at end of their first ever joint meeting here Friday.
The deal was signed by Iran’s General Qassem Rezaie and his Iraqi counterpart, General Mohsen Abdul-Hassan Lazem, IRNA reported.
To help ensure the security on eastern and western flanks of the Arvand River, the two sides agreed to launch systematic and simultaneous patrol units on both sides of the border waterway.
Iranian and Iraqi border guard commanders meanwhile agreed to increase the number of border posts to further strengthen the existing check points, and also provide more patrol boats for their respective patrols.
Each side will introduce its border guards to the other country’s relevant officials and exchange information on a regular basis with the aim of curbing smuggling and illegal entry of people through the shared water boundaries.
It was also emphasized that better facilities be provided for the increasingly large number of Iranian pilgrims visiting the holy shrines in Iraq, and for Iraqi pilgrims coming to Iran.
The Iranian side proposed a joint meeting among the border guard chiefs of the Persian Gulf states in the near future to address issues of common security interest and concern.
The joint meeting of Iranian and Iraqi border guard chiefs was held here from Wednesday to Friday to boost shared border security and help improve relations between the two Muslim neighbors. It was the first of its kind.
Iraq has said it has stationed 37,000 border guards at 413 check points and is preparing to increase the number of border check points on the Iranian border to 530 by the end of the year.
Iran’s Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi announced here late Thursday that spending on Iran’s border security has increased 1,400 times during the past few years.
