Dor to renew fuel supply to Gaza Strip
Yaakov Katz, THE JERUSALEM POST Aug. 17, 2007
The IDF plans to resume supplying fuel to the Gaza Strip on Sunday after thousands of Palestinians were left without electricity on Friday due to energy shortages.
The Gaza Generating Co. cut off power in parts of central Gaza on Friday after the IDF closed the Nahal Oz depot, which is used to transfer fuel into the Palestinian territory.
The passage was shut down Thursday for security reasons, and Gaza Generating said Friday that fuel reserves had run out, forcing it to scale back supply.
According to the Palestinians, some 600,000 of Gaza's 1.4 million people were affected by the blackout, which blanketed large swaths of the Strip in darkness.
Gaza Generating supplies about 25 percent of the Strip's electricity.
Col. Nir Press, head of the Gaza Liaison Administration, told The Jerusalem Post Saturday that the IDF had facilitated the transfer of 1.3 million liters of fuel to Gaza throughout the past week.
The Nahal Oz fuel depot, he said, was open all week except for Thursday when it was closed due to security considerations.
"The Palestinians are responsible for ordering the fuel they need and keeping enough in storage," Press said. "They can order as much fuel as they want from the Dor-Alon Energy Company and it is their responsibility to ensure that they keep stockpiles."
Comment: Once again the victim play was made to the world. The truth is that the port was open all but one day. Our enemy saw and seized upon an opportunity to play the victim. However, this time, there are those of us willing to spill the beans. This was solely the fault of their own doing-now you know the"rest of the story".
